about b-sides
Hi, I'm Bianca or B to most.

This whole thing started because I couldn't shut up about music. So I figured I should probably put my rambles out into the world rather than annoying friends and family with music they are nottttt interested in.
Notes on a B-Side is basically my musical diary that I've decided to make everyone else's problem. I write about whatever I'm listening to. Albums that have completely taken over my life, gigs that I'm still thinking about or way way way too keen for and playlists for whoever wants one. I am also using this as a way to broaden my taste, so often I stick with the same comfortable albums and artists, but deep diving into a discography has revealed some real hidden gems.
The name's partly because I love Notes on a Conditional Form (The 1975 fans know), but mostly because the best stuff isn't always the obvious choice. When given a chance that track 7 or 8 or 9 could soundtrack your life.
I grew up in a house where music was constant. Dad had his classic rock on permanent rotation (AC/DC, Zeppelin), with Mum loving a bit of Springsteen and anything 80s. Aussie classics like Powderfinger and Hoodoo Gurus were a core memory also. Somehow Tenacious D’s Tribute was also the only song we’d listen to on the drop off to school in dads car, don’t know what that says about how my music taste has evolved but it's had some sort of influence that's for sure.
I fell down the fan culture rabbit hole embarrassingly early thanks to One Direction, followed by the 1975 a couple of years later. In 2015 Heading into highschool I got my first MacBook and the world (tumblr) was my oyster. The band completely changed my outlook on music and has stuck with me ever since. My taste in music has evolved, but it’s true the music you love as a teen forever sticks with you.
Now I'm studying journalism and trying to figure out how to turn "I love music and have a lot of feelings about songs" into an actual space people would find interest in.
This site is starting as a uni assignment, but I hope for it to become so much more.
So if you want some music recs from a very unqualified enthusiast, you’re in the right place.
